Rapid Unscheduled Mentality Disassembly

I will never tire of the Graphene OS guy telling people why their favorite $45 phone is a piece of junk. Like unironically I enjoy it.

@nyx @prettygood My irritation with them comes from the fact that they're unwilling to compromise on boot security, which frankly matters to almost nobody. I'd much rather use Graphene than Lineage but there's no way in hell I'm buying a Google phone just for better security in an edge case that I'll never experience

@scathach @nyx @prettygood i don’t think anyone has the right to be a toxic piece of shit about it when we’re all victims of the same corporate machine forcing this smartphone horseshit down our throats

at this point i think it’s become an actual crisis, and we oughta treat it that way, i.e. put that oversized ego aside for five seconds and focus on helping people escape

@realpetrateal @scathach @nyx @prettygood if i were running a project like that i’d be way too pissed about the status quo to waste that perfectly good anger energy on anything but making things just a little bit less hellish

i don’t really have the freedom to avoid android apps anymore because even somewhat affordable public transit forces that shit on people now, but none of my phones have been running anything based on android or iOS. having a viable alternative that can still run those apps isn’t going to fix anything in the big picture just like wine didn’t destroy windows, but i sure fucking appreciate it. i appreciate being able to keep this shit contained and isolated and minimize its presence in my life

@nyx @prettygood @scathach

all of these projects are constantly under siege by corporate interests trying to recuperate them into being basically unpaid internships

Huh, now that I think of it, it seems that this is where the pushy, hippie-like attitude that many people criticize FOSS for comes from, even as annoying as it can legitimately be. In general, while software like GIMP is indeed poopy, I don’t think people who have directly witnessed the gradual expansion of the surveillance state and the melting away of digital (and soon real-life civil) rights despite their best efforts to get everyone else against it before it was far too late would ever result in anything less than (valid) passive-aggressive behavior drgn_cup
