@sun @j aren't the eggs pasteurized or something?

@wertimer @sun No
In the US they wash off the cuticle which is why they have to be refrigerated.

@sun @j afaik big issue with dough isnt eggs or milk.

while eggs are fine if stored correctly and eaten fresh etc, milk has a verrry low chance to create issues.

afaik the main reason is flour isnt as safe. E. Coli bacteria arent uncommon and the starch is not easy to digest raw. that said heating the flour while dry, than making cookie dough should be fine.

@sun @j yeah the whole raw eggs paranoia is unjustified. The math on it is that you're only likely to encounter one egg with salmonella in the USA in like 1/45,000 eggs. How many raw eggs is the average person consuming? Not enough to make the odds THAT concerning.

@anemone @sun if that were true then I'd have some kind of issues when I eat raw cookie dough but I don't.

@j@annihilation.social @sun@shitposter.world raw flour can contain e. coli which i'd be more wary of than salmonella. incidental exposure to salmonella seems to rarely result in actual disease unless the person is immunocompromized

@j@annihilation.social @sun@shitposter.world the risk for both is pretty low though so tbh i wouldn't worry about it

@sun I have never once gotten sick eating raw cookie dough or for that matter homemade cake/brownie batter and I'm pretty sure salmonella, if that's their excuse for those warnings, lives on the surface of the eggshell, not inside of the egg and it is mostly only an issue with fresh eggs not pasteurized eggs.

@Eiswald @sun you're wrong but like less than 1% of eggs have salmonella so it shouldnt be a problem
but theres still the raw flour which can make you sick !
microwaving the flour for like a minute will heat it up will kill the bacteria, and you can use milk instead of eggs to be safe with salmonella

that said the picture looks like pre done cookie batter, lord knows what they use to make that stuff
