my theory about why fediblock/alt text nazis/code of conduct whores/language and tone police types exist: they are trying to aggressively seize the tip (har har) of maslow's triangle by inserting themselves into the most inane bullshit ever so they can feel something, and these hot button issues are really easy to be an internet cop about.

you ever notice how it's a lot of queer, trans, disabled, or otherwise not exactly employed types who do this shit the most? they ain't got anything better to do. they're unhappy about their situation and feeling useless, so rather than actually do something of value (that takes time and effort and muh spoons) they decide it's better to go after touchy feely bullshit.

and usually this turns into a full on echo chamber and cottage industries pop up and it becomes a self sustaining timesink. you're left with the most useless aberrations of software or policy in the world. discord bots for neopronouns or alters or some shit, as one such example. the people who use them are the same type. the maintainers feel good about themselves, maybe crack open a patreon for medicinal weed. it all feeds into itself.

that's one half of it but I really see this as a lumpen + elite conspiracy, why would professionals ever bother with this? There's an element of astroturfed control that goes beyond the psychological, maybe the mentally ill are just the foot soldiers tho
