half life 2 should've started in ravenholm and with the gravity gun, then you do nova prospekt, then highway 17, then a small driving section through countryside, then black mesa east as a half way stop point, then water hazard, then route kanal, then the final chapters as normal. point insertion and red letter day should be completely scrapped. maybe sand traps too.

I mean, yeah. Even Valve clearly knew Ravenholm was a way better intro than point insertion and red letter day.

@yomiel well yeah but also they couldn't have allowed a half life game to not have a 10-15 minute long boring ass introduction sequence

Only because Half Life 2 made it series precedent. There's no reason the HL2 intro had to be long, HL1's intro being long was to set the scene, and mainly to jerk themselves off at having a 3D game with realistic, semi-coherent environment. By comparison, there's not nearly as much scene setting required in HL2, especially since by that point it was 2004 and there were plenty of story-driven first person shooters already out.

@yomiel yea ig, but as annoying as it is, you get enough opportunities to check out the physics engine so that you can actually get used to it and start figuring out how to use it in gameplay, in ravenholm it'd be a bit of a rough start to get used to it, especially with how claustrophobic it can get here and there
still it could've been far shorter given that it's not a tram ride but a leisurely stroll through bulgaria
