today, instead of a nice coffee, i have decided to drink an energy drink for breakfast.
i have heard about it from friends (mostly those in the trades) and seen jokes and memes online about scoffing down a can of white monster in the morning.
now, i would absolutely say that it feels decrepit, half a liter of a sweet, fizzy drink that you gulp down in the morning over or after breakfast feels like you're diving straight into that sugar induced dopamine hit only accelerated by the caffeine and taurine.
i am not a person for sweet breakfasts, i like something with substance, something like a nice sunny side up, or a nicely made sandwich that's not too rich, along with some black coffee.
maybe this observation is only induced by my personal preferences, but the morning energy drink feels like a spiritual antithesis to the black coffee/espresso.
coffee has played a significant role in our human history, trade routes, coffee houses, even religion and statesmanship was influenced by it, even goethe wrote about coffee.
the energy drink was invented in the 80s, gained popularity in the early 00s and it was always about the energy, about the performance, wire yourself up with some of that strong stuff, sugar shock yourself into the day or pick yourself up with it.
it has the stink of new age performance marketing all over it.
i do not enjoy the feeling of a can, that's been designed for marketability and efficient shipping, i enjoy the little porcelain cups that were gifted to me by people I love, a simple timeless thing that doesn't feel tethered to the currents of a world being swept around by the tides of stock and shares.
