Is there any reason to use XMPP nowadays when I already use Matrix, or is it more a "legacy" thing to keep in touch with people using it?

@wowaname Matrix documentation is pretty good too, at least imo https://matrix.org/docs/spec/

@wowaname If I had in depth knowledge of either's source code I wouldn't be asking this question haha.

@Deiru @lucy @fence Yeah but now we're getting into frontends. I don't like electron any more than the next person, but I'd give quaternion a chance to grow. I mean, XMPP is four times older than Matrix, and had been a thing since the '99. I'm more curious about the protocols themselves. Does XMPP support discord-like "channels" btw?

@lucy @Deiru @fence IRC is unfortunately very outdated with no encryption whatsoever.

@Deiru @fence @lucy Actually the question was wheter you could divide the chatrooms into channels like discord or slack has. Like this

@Deiru @lucy @fence Thanks for that tip, I'll look into it. Though the federated aspect is what is the most important to me. I want is to divide groups into several channels really, doesnt have to be "same as discord".
