it is really fucking dumb to rely on cloud hosting providers with billing based on usage, especially egress traffic. don’t do that. i’ve seen several people get hit by hosting bills in the thousands of dollars.

@mia Especially on fedi, where crawlers run uncontrolled. The MIT one created a few tens of GB of traffic just for my small instance.

Yeah bad idea lol. We get allotted 32TB of outbound traffic monthly with a constant price. Unlimited for inbound.

@dushman getting 40+TB outbound every now and then is just normal for my server (hetzner doesn’t charge for traffic on 1Gb links)
