@meso probably a 1960s fridge made of all-metal without any plastics. there probably are professional lines of fridges for slaughter houses or sth that still are like this

@meso some folks try to get GDR built kitchen tools, because even 40 years later they are better than what's made today.

I don't think that applies to fridges seeing how energy efficient they are today

@kaia energy efficiency in fridges is interesting because they're very simple machines. Indeed GDR stuff is very well made, we have these badminton rackets at school made in GDR and they look brand new, meanwhile the cheap Chinese ones they have are all bent broken twisted chipped from about the same amount of use. The GDR ones are uncomfortable and heavy but that's just a matter of the design being different

@kaia @meso Given they banned what made fridges great (freon) modern fridges are louder unless going for an expensive model with enough soundproofing.

I hate modern fridges. Living in a small apartment the fridge is the loudest thing there.

@critical @kaia Bulgarians have a unique ability to be able to stick a flag където не му е мястото even if it seems impossible at first

@critical Pretty much, fridges do nothing but utilize heat to extract more heat from an insulated compartment and then dumps that heat outside.

There is also a much less efficient gas heating refrigeration cycle available.

There are much better refrigerants than Freon now available, too bad those are extremely flammable and will burn you to death if lit.

Highly compressed CO₂ also works pretty well - too bad cheap piping that manufacturers love using is likely to burst.
