@teto i just want a computer to do what i want and not learn and memorize a new graphical interface everytime i want to do something slightly different, and click around selecting stuff trying to navigate to that one button that does what i want.
i like my keyboard. i like cli. i really like vim. hehecat
this is my calendar. it uses a text file to store appointments. i can edit it or use short bash commands for automated appointment generation or filtering or what not. it runs in any terminal. yes im autistic how could you tell blobcatautism

@lucy when I have to do something "for real" that doesnt use KDE plasmas UI stuff I just open the terminal and do a command or edit a text file. This happens once a year on average right now. Most of my appointments and calendar management happens within tuta for private stuff and outlook for work stuff

@lucy btw I work with an autistic woman now and she seems really weird to talk to. Anytime I ask a question outside of how she'd be used to do things she becomes instantly dismissive. I think autists are really bad at thinking outside the box

@teto nah that's not an autism thing, most people are just like that

@lucy most people are not like that at all. And I've worked with a lot of different people. Most just care about making work easier.

@teto hmm seems like we've met different types of people idk, most of the customers at work really are like that.

@lucy I work with admins. The most nerdy types there are like me. If I can find a linux gamer among them it's already "next level" to me, because most use windows or macs at home and only use linux for servers.

@lucy so going from "wow you use linux for gaming" to "HOW DARE YOU USE FLATPAKS AND KDE WHAT A FAGGOT HAHAHA" is a whiplash

@lucy and then the same fuckers who shit on me for using "sane" shit to save time think i should use windows for gaming instead of linux. You fuckers are all insane and think like aliens

@teto i never recommended windows for gaming meowHuh

@lucy not you, some other arch users. They basically treat linux like a lego box set and MAYBE coding OS and they dont associate gaming with it at all (they dont play videogames)

obligatory disclaimer before teto goes tits up: it's joke, I don't give a fuck how you use Linux, KDE is perfectly valid, I use Google Calendar to store appointments

@teto >>it's not buggy at all. Stop living in 2016

KDE is responsible for me not adopting Linux sooner, the very first Linux machine I had the "displeasure" to interact with (decades ago at the time) was using KDE as a desktop and it was buggy as fuck which led me form a really bad opinion of Linux at the time.

For decades each time I have tried KDE either it crashes in like 5 mins or some component does. Last time I tried around December I had Konsole and Dolphin crashing on me consistently.

It is probably that I'm cursed.

@grips @PalePimp I didnt see the need to use linux before microsoft released windows 10 (and prob 8 but everyone skipped that one)

@teto @PalePimp for me it was around 2014 when my wooden PC struggled with 7 and even XP - though when I was little, dad used to install these distros that came with tech magazines so we always had a multiboot of XP and some four distros. overall it felt nice but we didn't even have internet back then and using Linux without internet is quite pointless... anyway I just used it for the bundled games

@teto I have a Steam Deck but I only use it to play games and I rarely go to desktop mode. I do not doubt that the version of KDE in the Steam Deck has been made somewhat stable by Valve.

Every single time, we're talking 2 decades here each time when I've tried to use KDE (on my 1000% stable computers with no hardware issues) I keep finding bugs and crashes all over the place and what I do is not even do serious work on it, just attempt to configure it using its own preferences.

Sometimes the crashes are in component A, sometimes component B, sometimes the entire thing goes in flames. I do not do anything special, just deploy what is marked stable. Be it RHEL, be it Debian, be it Ubuntu or Arch and attempt to configure it.

@PalePimp KDE is stable in general now. And it works with wayland. I used xfce4 for a while too but it feels too old for me now

@teto I do not hate KDE (that is reserved solely for Gnome) I just find it buggy and changes too much way too often.

@PalePimp to me it just feels like windows and it was only buggy with nvidia drivers. Im on amd now.

@teto @PalePimp Plasma on Wayland looks completely wrong, maybe it's because of fractional scaling but the text looks blurry

@teto Yeah Nvidia on Linux has always been a disaster regardless of the desktop. That is an entirely different can of worms. Thanks God that is being finally addressed.
