what if the service is outside the EU and you can't shut it down

chatcontrol is a terrible idea (if you are for it you are a legitimate fascist) but these suggestions suck

@sun chatcontrol is so terrible it doesn't need an alternative. it needs a sledgehammer to the skull to everyone still trying to make this happen smh

The French court system considers it sus if you use tor, signal etc

"All members of this group were particularly suspicious, only communicated with each other through encrypted applications, particularly Signal, and encrypting their computer media […]. "

@sun i vaguely remember a statistic floating around that shows that when you deal with csam across borders, it's really effective to just drop providers a mail. numbers were like "12h and it's gone in 99% of cases" effective.

it's almost as if the things that should be deleted or chatcontrolled are other things. like "misinformation".

@lain I think the swedish one decided to stop talking about piracy and instead talks about refugees and immigration. aren't there like 25 parties already that do that

@sun the youth organization of the German Green Party decided to split from the main party to finally found a new left-wing party that isn’t afraid of the powers that be

@smug @sun in France, it is a separate felony to refuse to give up your passwords and keys if you are already investigated for something else. The fifth doesn't exist there, basically.

@lain I can't get over that there are politicians still active from when the green party was promoting child molestation in the 80s

@sun the whole “die linke” party is literally the East German state party.

It depends on the state, but generally yes. In this case though you might just circumstantially "forget" passwords

@sun All those suggestions suck. Except 3. 3 is already policy on many platforms. Also chat control was snagged by the EU court last time I heard about it.

@maxmustermann @sun they tried pushing chatcontrol for years and they'll keep trying until they succeed.

@lucy @sun They'll fail again and again and then its too late, because the Confederation is gone.

Remember von der Leyen's ebin stop sign that didn't do anything, because CP hosts are on the move all the time? I know there is a war looming and the government wants control of the internet before people get skeptical about the entire thing. It won't help. Also its partly the same people who made the German internet unusable with some ridiculous regulations.

@lucy @maxmustermann I brought it up because I saw a gnueet that said it's being brought back up for a vote again soon by Hungary.

@lain @sun We have a pirate party affiliate in formation in the US. I wrote to the chairman that the foreign policy section on their website wasn't anti-empire enough and the way it was written it could be interpreted to justify the US invading and overthrowing other countries for having monopolies and strict copyright laws. He accused me of being a "Maga communist", so I lost interest

@ryan @lain I tried to get involved with it when I was in a different state and at the same time I started, the party was so disused that it lost its filings to be an official party and it was too much work to get it reinstated.

@sun @smug i hear that the fifth isn't applied when you cross the border. Hence half of my frens never carry their devices and have two completely separate sets of hardware in 'murrica and Oirope.

@sun @smug no, I mean that they can detain you at the border almost indefinitely until you give up your data. Something something PATRIOT act.

@lucy @sun
@lain @smug Now that I am thinking about it: Speech regulations and application of media regulations on private citizens (this is what the chat control people really want) don't make the problems that caused the "hate speech" go away. It won't even automatically kill the Sovoks posting the speech they don't like. They instead turn any deluded imbecile with Internet access into an informer who follows brain rotten boomers into some chatroom so he can post a ebin GDPR violation anonymously on blog spot. Snitches get stitches and if it was up to me, we would have taken those people to that Indian cannibal isle where we and the natives would club them to death.

@maxmustermann @lucy @sun i mean, Germany tries to suck young people from all over Europe to fix its aging population problems and provide welfare. I know a shitload of people who moved there in the past few years.

And the child porn as reason for all of this? That's breakdancing nonsense of course. Anyone stupid enough to share CP in chat is in prison already and the any sane platform regulates itself so far that pedos can't take up space on them.

@maxmustermann @lucy @sun Banning CP is just what they publicly present to people. They know that pedophiles are by and large pretty tech-savvy and will, for the most part, understand how to route around whatever they put in place. What they want to do is unmask and jail anyone posting Gigi D'Agostino in response to some leftist politician posting #RefugeesWelcome on Twitter.

@maxmustermann @lucy @sun naah.. there still isn't enough young people for that too. Median age in Germany is 49, it's the second oldest population in the world, after Japan.

Economic collapse? Maybe. Bloody war? Not within a generation or two, after boomers die out.

@Ree @lucy @maxmustermann @sun There's a good case to be made for banning porn tbh, it's addictive and warps peoples' views of the opposite sex.
