@meso
I'd rather someone drove a Fiat than the stupid fucking SUV's that have invaded the UK.

British country-side larp tbh. 99% of land rover owners drive on paved road.

@PurpCat this is why Poland sucks. the Soviets had the shame and dignity to not call it a Fiat.

@phnt @meso

It's time to eject the Fr*nch from humanity for being regicides

FIATs/SEATs/Yugos etc are socialist car design

Ford is union-made, so never get in one unless you have no other choice

@meso They are all almost fully French cars. Only the engine electronics are likely made by Bosch. The only German car manufacturer Stellantis owns (Citroen, Peugeot owner along with many others) is Opel and those also became fully French cars. Only thing Opel makes are _some_ of the engines and slightly redesigned bodies. Almost nothing from the old GM Opel remains.

They all had serious reliability issues in the past and Renault had one until recently with it's TCe engines that exploded after few thousand km.

Almost all of the also look ugly, because they all want to be unique from others and can't manage to actually finish the design into something nice looking.

@phnt @meso (you know it's a French car because it has bumpers you can use in Parisian traffic to ram other cars out of the way)

@meso Mazda 3/6 looks nice compared to everything else. The newer design I've seen looks ugly though.

Toyota Camry also looks relatively nice and VW Arteon didn't look that bad with it's futuristic design, although I would never buy a VW.

@arcana @phnt @meso French ones: Fenault, Fitroen. Then others like Fugatti, Faguar, FcLaren, Foenigsegg, ftc.

Yeah, I can relate on that one.

@meso Volvo's aren't really my thing, to functional of an old car for my liking. For something older I like the old Tatra cars. Or the Škoda 120/125, those have a certain cheapness vibe I like.
Tatra Tatraplan T-600
Tatra T603 (the StB car)
Škoda 120L

@adachi @meso You aren't supposed to buy the Diesel engines. Japs never really made great diesel engines. You are supposed to buy the gasoline ones that are surprisingly responsive and playful for their size.

@phnt @adachi @meso Also I've heard the Subaru diesel engine is even dodgier than their gas engines by a longshot (think marginally better than Olds Diesel levels), but it has a really distinct sound that's a mix of a boxer engine and a diesel truck:

@phnt @meso Those Tatras somehow reminds me of old Saab.

@phnt @meso Yeah, I hated the Subaru diesel engine. The clutch was no good, the torgue with 1st gear was low, so I got the motor halted quite often when trying to get moving from stand still. 😤

@immobile @meso That's not a coincidence. Tatras were one of the first cars that tried to be aerodynamic starting with the T77 from 1930's. The original VW Beetle design was inspired by it and from there it probably went to Saab and elsewhere.

@meso @adachi The RX-7 sequential twin turbo system is something I wish I didn't know how it works. I would consider it forbidden knowledge just because it's so cursed.

@arcana @PurpCat @meso @adachi Yeah, they don't even sell Hiluxes with gasoline engines here. Probably due to emission controls.

@phnt @PurpCat @meso @adachi probably that yes. The new ones come with a diesel hybrid option which seems pretty cool

@meso @adachi Btw the turbo system has a nice side effect of suddenly increasing engine power output when it switches from primary only and secondary pre-spool to the sequential one which makes the car somewhat dangerous in corners when the engine RPM is around 4000-4500. The power increase is so sharp it can make the rear tires loose grip.
