@eemmaa parents should teach their kids what local plants are poisonous and what is edible it's such a fundamental parenting skill imho

@lucy ya i mean i was sorta told not to eat random berries but i did it any way. Another strange thing i would do was collect bugs and fill up the bathtub with them, then get in the bath with the bugs. One time i did it with a bunch of centipedes and millipedes my mom lost her mind.

@eemmaa see that's the dumb thing about it tbhon.
instinctively you might watch out for edible berries, even if just some innate wondering "are these delicious?" and a lot of them are. whenever my parents told me "no" for no reason i lost a fraction of respect i had for them, at least explain yourself or admit that you have no fucking clue what you're talking about and educate yourself first.

as long as they're not dangerous (no clue about what bugs exist where you grew up)

@lucy centipedes and millipedes are sometimes poisonous but you are more likely to run into not poisonous varieties where i lived, still bringing an entire rotted out trees worth of milipedes and centipedes into the house has to be alarming even if they arent poisonous

@lucy @eemmaa Having a basic familiarity with which parts of which plants in your area are edible, poisonous, and/or psychoactive is an essential part of being a functioning person imo
