Druid (MOVED TO SHRINE.MOE)

No you see Justwatch, it doesn't matter how much money Amazon pays you to put this shill shit on there, "similar movies" is a psyop for barely sentient consoomers.

I guess now Redbox is gone, someone has to pick up the "similar movies" grift.

@druid Amazon should do "People who bought $film, also bought …" because I'm pretty sure some funny shit would happen.

And for me mass-tags searching and other forms of actually digging into the internet, plus friends is best way to find cool shit.

@lanodan Oh I don't mind discoverability, that's fine.

What I object to is FAKE MOVIES, which Amazon has a lot of. Mostly Geezer Teasers with Liam Neeson and other similar has beens where they make movies that are kind of like real movies.

I mean it's been a phenomenon since forever, that's why I namedropped Redbox lol

@druid Well discoverability is nice but most recommendation algos tend to be horribly bad, so I'd rather be able to manually dig.

@druid Also pretty much entirely out of the loop when it comes to stuff like redbox, like I never heard of it before.
And like I know Amazon Video is a thing but literally never used it, after all it's typically stuff that just won't work on Linux without pain, so not really a willing customer.

@druid Watched that willis-factory movie review and wow… didn't know it was *that* bad.
I guess sailing the high-seas means that stuff gets filtered out :D

@lanodan Holy shit you really watched an hour long YouTube video that got linked on fedi? I'm impressed, people don't DO that.

Was this your first time watching Redlettermedia?

@druid Heh, well usually when people link something I tend to at least check what it is.

Wasn't first time but I very rarely watch them. I did watch Space Cop though, Youtube-budget film but pretty fun.

@lanodan I've never watched it, I've heard some people compare it to the AVGN movie LMAO (except "fans didn't pay for Space Cop," which is absolutely true.)

I watch Half in the Bag to find out about new movies, but have never tackled the archive. It's active viewing because you end up making decisions about when to abort episodes to avoid spoilers in interesting sounding movies lmao.

Best of the Worst is much easier to binge and I've passively soaked in every episode at least twice...

@druid Yeah, in fact Space Cop I don't think I would pay much for it if anything.

And I don't think I've heard of AVGN having a movie, which to me sounds weird as it's just a dude playing retro games, would make more sense for him to well… make a game that's either for retro platforms or retro-inspired.

@lanodan The AVGN movie is a notorious flop. It's supposed to be "The E.T. Review" since people consider it the worst game ever made, but it's a weird road trip movie with a bunch of new characters nobody knows or cares about instead of his friends. AVGN himself isn't the same character as usual in it either. Basically he wanted to make A Real Hollywood Movie (and went there to shoot it lol) and the end result is a charmless slog.
