The main issue for me is that inequality is a desirable and natural thing. Not all are born or remain equal, and a system that tries to go against that is inherently inhuman.

arcana@layer02.netOf course, the US is far from an actual free market system and a lot the suffering and poverty is caused by government interference in the free market. Even if it was though, the existence of poverty isn’t a sign of the system failing, it’s a sign of people failing to take the correct initiative which is always going to exist. Success is taken not given.
While pioneers were building the modern world these past few centuries, others were choosing to mooch about doing little of value. Their choice of course, and that’s a good thing, but they should not expect equal outcomes for that.

If it’s so menial that it’s work for slaves of some kind, it’s pretty much been automated away at this point or will be in the next ten years especially with the massive investment in robotics

In the UK, there are still couple jobs available, a nanny and groundskeeper combo on the estates of nobility, with a home provided on the grounds. Things like this need to come back and would provide great work and residential options to those in need

I know Japan has a habit of pushing all its homeless outside urban areas so you just end up with encampments out under freeways in the middle of nowhere
