@twinspin6 People watch it and get turned into technopriests even though that's ostensibly not the point (the anime glorifies it anyway.) Some of them get pipelined into a pseudo-gnostic rejection of the real world, and from there it is a short hop to wanting the world destroyed / replaced by "The Wired." It's immanentizing the eschaton rebranded for techcels.

People who want to do something insane like destroy material reality or create a world where women exist without men or whatever might seem harmless because their delusional ideals will never EVER happen, but the misanthropy of it all fills the heart with evil.
