Plus, places like /v/ have a reputation for hating everything and only liking the best of the best. Or at least used to have that reputation. "/v/ actually likes this game" was a high form of praise, so trying to astroturf a game was a reasonable strategy.

I've been using it since 2003 myself (21 years on anime website award.) I was going to post one of the classic "/v/ hates vidya games" comics for you (with the guy and the video game scowling hatefully at each other in every frame) but I can't find any. The internet is crippled lol, I can barely even find God Hand comics.
