@snacks My proprietary senses are telling me that the SBC runs proprietary software, meaning the printer is proprietary, even if the printer hardware design and the printer software is licensed under the GPLv3-or-later.

@snacks Yes, armbian contains proprietary software.

GNU Linux-libre would most likely work, although any integrated proprietary software depending Wi-Fi card wouldn't work.

Installing a free GNU/Linux-libre distro still won't solve the problem of a proprietary bootloader.

@snacks u-boot contains proprietary software.

I wouldn't surprise me if their build contains proprietary binaries for RAMinit etc.

@twinspin6 most decent printers nowadays use klipper, which is linux based. Used to be that everything ran on a microcontroller but that started causing issues with more complex and fast movements iirc so now a beefy sbc just sends simple movement commands to the microcontroller boards
