I am pretty much done with anime in general. I don't think there is much worth watching released beyond like 2016. Gooner games and vtubers with overexaggerated rigging finally maximizing the monetization potential out of the style and generalizing it to a massive, gullible audience has pretty much left all of the modern stuff catering to lonely, horny faggots. It's all the same tropes and shit over and over. Isekai this. Harem that. High school this. Love interest that. It was bad before of course, but nothing like today.

As the depressing zombies who watch this shit attempt to live vicariously through these shows with nostalgia for a past they never got the chance to have, I want to be as far away from these people as possible. I won't go to conventions anymore because everyone and their mothers are doing retarded little suggestive TikTok dances in the middle of the floor because yes, sex sells on the internet and the dudes who show up are the bottom of the barrel cringy autist nerd types who think that gacha pull they just got loves them. I won't even mention that I used to regularly marathon a bunch of shit back in the day to keep up with the shitposts (and see if the Sakurafish guy posted again) on /a/ to anyone who dares asks.

Money ruins everything man. But I've learned idiots with money ruin things much more effectively. That's how industries around exploiting idiots get started, and they'll stop at nothing to make a profit and drag more idiots along. I miss when it was all kinda niche and underground. I thought Itashas were cool 15 years ago, now I just fully expect whoever steps out of it whacks it to 15 year olds. Nobody would have dared make a Black Lagoon gacha game in 2006 for god's sakes. So on and so forth.

@7666 honestly this is how I feel about a lot of things today. the feedback loop of social media has pretty much ruined every hobby or interest that can be passively consoomed by reducing it to whatever is the lowest common denominator that gets the most engagement. but watching people who were otherwise not even into anime discover Serial Experiments Lain and Evangelion in the late 2010s was the first sign to me that anime was pretty much dead

@nyx @7666 I watched Evangelion for the first time ever in 2023. It was honestly pretty epic, Ramiel was cool, and I liked the guy with glasses who coordinates all of the stuff. I can see why people think it’s a classic.

I already knew the opening theme from a Byzantium edit

@monkey @7666 I didn’t even watch an anime until 2010. Death Note was my first but I found it a little bit preachy (nooo, killing the heckin’ criminalinos is bad) and then I watched Black Butler which I liked for the setting.

@foxcat @7666 yeah, I liked that one, and the part where they went into the gun place. I liked the blue haired woman who used an AWM. I had her as my Steam pfp for a while when I was a semi pro Counterstrike player

@arcana @7666 death note is pretty good cause I like crime thriller stuff, which it pulled off well. But yeah I tried to watch anime on and off in my twenties and couldn't ever get back into it. Now I just look at anime girls kissing that's the extent of it.

@monkey @7666 I’ve only ever watched anime at the suggestion and with other people. I’ve never sought it out on my own

@monkey @arcana @7666 Death Note is great, but the ending of the first release was so underwhelming and poorly explained that they had to redo it twice.

@7666@comp.lain.la anime was cool when people were embarassed to be fans or they were those obvious scene and emo kids no one liked hanging around because they were so obnoxious
