GenAI just sucks so much for society, wasn't short form content enough.

fucks sake, when I hear LLM seo.

Nuking data centers would be a service to humanity, these fucking retards at big tech

@meeper I fully expect something like AWD for datacenters to form within the next year, and unlike AWD proper, I expect it to obtain at least some amount of mainstream sympathy among various disaffected groups of society instead of being a fringe group which mainly preys on the disaffected of the disaffected

@meeper@udongein.xyz Yeah no shit, We are churning through hardware to the same level of results a fucking kid could come up with

And even then they are still wrong 80% of the time, For the novelty the price is not worth it, I really hope that this Ram shortage is going to be the end of OpenAI or better stricter regulations for AI companies and their growth because this bs has a global knockon effect

@xaetacore Problem is that it completely stalls important cultural development.

Books and literature are dead, and now the fact that you can find some random site on the internet with is gone too.

So much for democratisation everything has been centralized to such a bleak extent it's just pure and utter evil.

It's all instagram slop and shit now,

I feel nothing but disgust for the lemmings that enable this especially the fools who speak of freedom and don't and be an apologist for when it is violated in the most gruesome manner

@meeper Also not relatedly, I can't get the "Siege 1488 Kill Your Local Mailman" poster out of my head, after all these years, it's still the most audacious and jarring piece of propaganda art I've ever seen in my life.

@meeper Atomwaffen Division, one time American far right terrorist group of note. Their whole schtick while they were around was that they wanted to cause a societal collapse and one of the ways they would do that (on top of the usual shitfuckery you can expect of such people) was intentionally targeting power substations and nuclear reactors attempting infrastructural sabotage and trying to cause as much damage in the process as possible. They did actually target some of the former, and this combined with feds comprehensively infiltrating the group caused them to collapse in on themselves before they could accomplish much of anything. One particular offshoot is still around as 764 which, well, you're gonna have to Google for what that one does, bc I'm sure as hell not relating it here

@meeper@udongein.xyz Depends where you look, ditch instagram and that other shit and there are still places you can have normal experiences and conversations, you would be surprised but some of it is old school, IRC, Forums maybe even message boards, image boards too are pretty nice if you can find the right ones.

I started cutting these out of my life a while ago, First facebook, then snapchat, Google followed and slowly im "sanitizing" my internet experience, and when i get too sick of all that i look somewhere else perhaps on i2p or tor, Not much there but sites are still quite active

@xaetacore It's just incredibly difficult to have visibility.

Like I want to write things (say for example literature) and I say no way for them to be seen by people at large, and that it's impossible to cultivate a niche.
The only way I really think Is to assume that discovery on the internet is imposisble and use physical propaganda and advertisements or creating a pressure group.

A lot of what I say concerns india, which is plagued because it really got only widespread access to tech during the retard slop era and there is minimal to none of the good stuff like imageboards forums and irc, (unironically reddit is one the better places) part of me wants to cultivate such spheres but that just seems to become more and more imposisble.

Especially since the only population which isn't being stupid on instagram and facebook is the anglochoded one and a lot of them are self hating buffoons that are proud of the fact they can't read their native language

@meeper they were but as I said a very influential one. they also kind of had a late war waffen ss deal going on where they were so desperate for manpower that they would compromise and take on any warm body they could find for the cause regardless of race sexuality or gender. this led to the odd situation where a strasserist guatemalan american trans girl (who tried hitting on me back in 2017, for all my well deserved reputation of ending up with crazy women, even I knew to stay miles away from her) ended up being one of their main propagandists online and irl. strange world we live in sometimes

@xaetacore yeah, I can really say it's just a combination of the worst possible circumstances, which is why thinking of it makes me feel depressed, because technically there is decent potential but everything is set up to maximize the proliferation of retartedness and the retartedness of the people being the only thing that's seen.

As an example - 'English' in india is for exect a minority of anglochodes less than a language but more a reduced artificial broken parrotry of speaking based on linkedin speak + victorian anglo. Additionally this being the medium of education, severely scuffs reasoning and understanding on a basal level add to that a generational element- with the person being thought incomprehensible angloslop is the person teaching more incomprehensible angloslop.

Additionally the there is an arrogance of people thinking they know english, which makes thing worse and that india being poor as shit in the formative years of the internet - (the time where you can get an actual chance of earnestly interacting and learning english, and also add stuff like video games and television) means an important chance for an understanding there has also died.

Add to that a bunch of historical mess due to shit going wrong, colonisation imperialism (both perso-islmaic(via turks) and britshit)

Like seriously the average indian appears and is more retarted than they should be, especially in computer science, since you have to understand the discrete jargon and technical speak and can't do with passive learning.

If you exclude the necessity of speaking english people will appear significantly more smarter.

The lack of snuffing of resources in native languages due (((english))) is just such a bad thing and it's one of many retarted limiters on any sort of potential the country could add (as for another add the whole hindu-muslim ill sentiment made much much worse due to partition and pakistan doing retarted stuff)
If I didn't spend my early life in the states I'd probably quite the same (unless ig I discovered some random forums and video games)

@meeper@udongein.xyz An indian software vendor was not able to translate their shitty init.rd script into a simple systemd service file

The kind of shit you learn on page 5 of most linux books :/

Honestly the level of skill i see over there is miles below what we have in europe and its always our engineers cleaning this shit up

ਬਾਈ ਬਰਸੀ ਪਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਰਹਾੰ ਪਿਆ

@xaetacore Yeah ik, I'm just iterating on the reasons for this crap.

You really can't do CS without a proper discrete understanding of systems, unlike other fields of engineering and due to stuff that I described it's hard to come by.

ਬਾਈ ਬਰਸੀ ਪਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਰਹਾੰ ਪਿਆ

@xaetacore There is also the additional problem of endless shitty universities churning an endless stream of less-than-competent graduates which makes the problem much much worse at present.

@meeper@udongein.xyz Comprehension is essential for any profession, Even more menial ones like Electrical engineering, if you don't know about regs and shit and how to do stuff correctly your gonna burn down a house for real or worse

I have seen Indian electrical work and lets say its anything but up to code

ਬਾਈ ਬਰਸੀ ਪਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਰਹਾੰ ਪਿਆ

@xaetacore I mean for other fields it's easier to get a sense of things, an intuitive understanding that's not grounded in the lack of language comprehension

It's kinda hard to explain but there really is a qualitative difference which scuffs cs much more.

There is also the additional byproduct of schools basically optimising on test scores (so just learning to solve 'questions' rather than the underlying understanding) and a culture of that.

@affine @meeper another unrelated trans girl I knew well, too unironically schizo for the above mentioned groups and never formally part of them, was nevertheless active on several white supremacist forums in the early 2010s and helped to push the (eventually commonly accepted, as you can see from the patch on the jacket in the second photo) forced meme of a red/brown alliance between terrorist elements of the far right and the DPRK

> Am indian
> Indians tend to be less than competent

-> I'm incompetent

I mean more in an employability sense, especially since due to me being a useless slob I've not really got a profile worth showing

@affine @meeper needless to say, there's a lot of lore in my orbit I'm carrying to my grave, and the one real solace I have is that I was never *directly* involved in any of it, always just on the periphery, seeing all this nonsense go down while I only got moderately irony poisoned, looked in the mirror, didn't like what I see, and found God (thanks in no small part to a number of fedi people, you know who you are)

@xaetacore

simmilarly a bunch of more cultural burdens ig.

One of the reasons for my previous charade of how llms and social media slop stops development.

I want to write honest to goodness proper books on STEM topics in my native language, but basically anyone who may read it would rather gush llm prompt slop or Geeks4Geeks slop and it just feels like a hopeless endeavour.

Also one example of the murder of any potential is how early to pre independence india had a few nobel prize winners + (like compare the comprehension of english of gandhi et al to any modern educated indo -> avg educated indian then had a better comprehension of both their native language and english).

And how the educated class degenerated into modern day. (a lot to blame the brits on this but I've already posted too much copeslop)

@latein @xaetacore @meeper I can't seem to find it, but I vaguely remember a Google internal memo around 2006 or 2007 admitting "defeat" to SEO tactics, although in my experience the terminal decline of Google as a search engine didn't start happening until after 2015. I still use it a lot out of pure habit but I always have to diversify my sources now (both search and non search), which is never something I had to concern myself with back in the day.

@allison@hidamari.apartments @latein@cawfee.club @meeper@udongein.xyz I default to duck duck and only rarely google something, For gifs i just use tenor and giphy, Honestly once you know your sites besides looking for shit you dont really need a search engine

Lots of people just use google to get to youtube or some other site they already know, its just a force of habbit at that point

@meeper @latein @xaetacore You mean web directories? I think there are some dmoz spinoffs (curlie??) still going but IMHO if we're going to do something like that again we should do it from scratch. Also a tip for any errant would-be wayback machine perusers who happen on this thread, directory.google.com from the early 2000s is very well preserved on it and it gives you the most comprehensive jumping off point for exploring period websites on archive.org

@meeper@udongein.xyz University is a joke, i went there as a dropout to headhunt for this company i was working at back then and when i asked which programming languages these people knew that did AI and shit they said they just started on Java and Python, The fuck when i was their age i already knew 4 different langauges and made multiple projects myself

Going to college or university is not a brag, it often unless your job requires it a waste of money and just a piece of paper
