@fiore @MalibuSunrise @twinspin6 i'm wondering how that budget works out without being insanely cpu heavy now

@fiore @snacks @twinspin6 @MalibuSunrise personal rule of thumb is 8 GB per CPU core so my PC at home has 64GB and my laptop has 16, and that’s basically perfect

@fiore i am hella lucky that i got this laptop in january, 64gb of ram alone would cost $350 now. granted the cpu limits it to 2667MHz but realistically ive never encountered an issue where it felt like my ram wasnt fast enough

also, pro tip people: keep your laptops. take them apart if you dont have space, but keep the parts. i have 16gb of ram on the laptop-cum-server that this instance is hosted on cause i tore down my 3rd most recent laptop and then put its ram into it. (the reason it's a server is that I dropped it like eight times and when i dropped it in january the bottom casing cracked open and like it's not falling apart but i did not trust it to stay that way even with the duct tape. the nice thing about laptop-servers is that if your DHCP decides to play tricks on you and make it so that literally every device but your computer can ping your server and (theoretically) ssh into it there's a terminal right there.
