What does the unconnected pad next to the connected one on the upper side do? Idgi (this is a model f pcb, bottom most one is just shielding)

Ohh, i think it increases the capacitance change when the paddle goes down because that increases the capacitive coupling since it's very weak by default with that tiny shared edge

And the reason you can't just make the pad bigger is that that would increase the capacitance with the pad on the back and lower capacitance change again?
