@coolbean wanted to say that car manufacturers might be too cheap for gear indicators, but a lot of cars have digital ones already.
Maybe just that the average person would be confused by them and reject it?

@snacks apparently its that they typically need to use straight gears which are louder (whining sound) and have slightly more power loss

also given the weirdness around first gear its just a little annoying for stop and go traffic in the cities

@snacks so it seems its just an unhappy medium for normal cars (but makes motorcycles all the cooler)

@coolbean ah yeah, straight cut gear sound can be annoying, ibteresting they're less efficient with straight cut gears tho

@coolbean @snacks i dont know shit about cars. What if i wanted indestructible shitbox? 45 miles, tops. No transmission only one big gear. 12 cylinder or two cylinder. Can tow 10,000 pounds. Only uses sharp angles for the sheet metal so it can be repaired with a hammer and brake press. Brush guard. No A/C, but with one of those 50s window mounted swamp coolers

@Guiles @coolbean you won't really tow 10000 pounds while going 45mph with a single gear i'm afraid

@snacks @coolbean redundant fuel pumps, one shitty inline from autozone, and one manual foot pump by the brake, which inflated a condom eith gasoline to give even pressure

@Guiles @snacks you might end up with pressurised air brakes this way but let it be known i 100% agree with you but alas thats like a construction site vehicle. wheel loader or perhaps a crane
