im thinking about cutting apart a little piece of wood i found to try and make a guitar nut/string spacer out of it. its just a tiny piece of scrap wood and big enough to give me like half a dozen attempts at least so really theres no better practice material

@coolbean it's always cool.how much i learn abt guitars from reading your posts. Didn't even know nylon strings are a thing

@snacks id argue they're more common here in germany but yea those are used on concert/spanish/classical guitars while steel strings are used on western/acoustic guitars

@snacks also electric guitars use steel strings but much lower tension ones which is one of many reasons why they're arguably the easiest to play (but the worst to practice with)

@coolbean yeah, was wondering if there's nylon strings with bits of steel attached for electric but seems not so

@snacks no but the ones for lower pitches are usually wound with nickel or silver for what its worth

@snacks ive also found those to be way less fussy than the plain nylon ones alas i kinda hate nylon strings because they are relatively stretchy meaning they fall out of tune rather quickly ESPECIALLY the g string for some godforsaken reason

@coolbean nylon suffers from creep, mich less so with properly produced stuff than what comes oit of a 3d printer but still a bit

@coolbean moisture probably makes them go out of tune too

@snacks i wish nylon werent a gigantic pain to 3d print cause i actually think its an awesome thermoplastic

@snacks well not even 3d print, just store

on the bright side: just put some weedwacker line in a dehydrator for cheap filament

@coolbean it doesn't even seem that bad, esp with fiber additive? Maybe bad parts are bad but the warping with the stuff i've tried was still manageble even when covering the entire print bed

@snacks its mostly the hygroscopism im worried about but i also do not have any experience to speak off as i cant afford a 3d printer and dont have room for one

gotta work on my shed to fix one of these problems

@snacks i literally want a workshop so bad but we've still not cleared it from garbage or hung up something to protect it from rain while we replace the roof

@coolbean it's much less hygroscopic after annealing. Aslo, pa12 gets it down even further but not sure if that's a worthwhile tradeoff since it seems worse than even moist pa6
