is there anything that freedesktop designed that is actually, well, well-designed
until now i thought that at least the xdg basedirs were, but seems like not because of one snippet about XDG_STATE_HOME seems to show they didn't really think that one through

@navi I think XBEL is okay, at least more worth to use it than to redesign something else and pretty sure most would make something worse or even more likely skip the premise of an interoperable format for bookmarks (screw that).
(Been using it for my bookmarks, allows me to share them between own browser, elinks, blog, …)

it's funny to look at it though because XBEL isn't an xdg thing, they just defined a filesystem layout to hold the XBEL files
also the spec mentions XDG_USER_DATA... which isn't mentioned anywhere else in the freedesktop wiki???
did they mean XDG_DATA_HOME? XDG_DATA_DIRS? holy

@navi Ah yeah, XBEL seems to be sitting on multiple chairs. The filesystem layout is kind of another thing and not sure if it ever became cross-desktop as XDG implies.
