I should make a speedometer for my bicycle that uses the dynamos ac to power itself and figure out the speedi

@snacks wouldnt that just be a calibrated voltage meter?

@coolbean i wanted to use the ac frequency, that seems easier and idk how linear the voltage is, i think there's stuff in place to limit it

@coolbean like, just count how often it goes on and off, with pole count you can figure out exactly how fast the wheel is turning

@snacks @coolbean that's a fun idea usually you just slap a magnet on the wheel

@twinspin6 @coolbean yeah, was thinking there's already the same stuff in the hub you'd use for a speedometer, why not use it

@twinspin6 @coolbean why? There's obv wires coming out and i can just turn the wheel once to see how many pulses i get in a revolution

@twinspin6 @coolbean originally they where just intended to power lightbulbs, which run perfectly fine on ac

@snacks @coolbean how much power does that output actually

@twinspin6 @coolbean amperage really depends but apparently they're supposed to produce ~6V for as wide a range as possible
