@fiore @annamaria

autovacuum (boolean)
Controls whether the server should run the autovacuum launcher daemon. This is on by default

yeah

@snacks @fiore @annamaria That's only marking dead rows for overwrite, but if the storage backend can't actually fill those gaps in the files, it will append it at the end. Eventually you will have to vacuum full/pg_repack the database manually.

@phnt @fiore @annamaria just have enough storage that you always end up with a large enough gap before running out of space weSmart

@snacks @fiore @annamaria Yeah I know, just wanted to put that out since the thread is about db meme rot (never running vacuum full).

@phnt @fiore @annamaria this server has never seen a vacuum full, much less a repack, and people are amazed at how fast it runs lmao (but that's just because it's overspecced to hell and back)

@snacks @fiore @annamaria You aren't running on shit tier VPS hardware with IO performance worse than an IDE HDD from the 90's. That's the magic sauce.

@phnt @fiore @annamaria no amount of vacuuming, repacking and tuning got the shitty hetzner network storage to be fast enough. That's kinda why i'm hosting at home now

@snacks @fiore @annamaria Yeah, that is mostly hopeless. Same with BuyVM's storage slabs. I had a 15GB read/write lvmcache in front of it and it still kept falling over. But pl.borked.technology temporarily runs on a Hetzner VPS and the IO on the main SSD is actually pretty good.
