The claim that "sex is a spectrum" annoys me.

If it's a spectrum, there needs to be a variable I can measure that sits on a continuous value range. Say from 0 to 500, where 0 is the male end of the spectrum and 500 the female end, or something like that.

So what are the two ends of the value range, and how are they measured?

How do I measure someone's "sex value" on this spectrum?

Also, it implies that some men are "more male" than others and some women are "more female" than others. What does that remind you of?

@taylan
Maybe it's two-dimensional, and the variables are estrogen level and testosterone level.

@light Too much testosterone gives you man-boobs because your body doesn't know what to do with that much T and it ends up getting converted into estrogen. This is why some bodybuilders have gynecomastia.

@light This could lead to very counter-intuitive results, such as a roided out transman with a vagina being considered "more male" than the average man with a penis. blobcat-joy
