@kura originally a commercial game that was abandoned, its makers did not litigate after the source got leaked. so it's abandonware i guess?

and I read the introductory.
its a leaked version of the source. but yes its abandon ware.

might play starbound once more.

Oh it's leaked, I though the devs released it as is thinking they could exploit people and relaunch the thing.
Technically speaking anyone that will do code changes to it will not belong to them, it will be to the copyright owner of whoever still owns starbound.

If it was owned, then copyright would never expire.

Code changes to unlicensed leaked source code are simply illegal - it doesn't automatically become licensed to the copyright holder(s) - although the copyright holder(s) may agree to retroactively authorize the changes with the copyright assigned.
