@lain @nugger ok, not THAT bad. Why do people buy these proxies that have nothing to do with the card

@snacks @nugger the full edh deck proxy sets look pretty cool mostly, with official wotc art getting worse they are probably the better alternative.

@lain @nugger yeah, i really don't like either of the official artworks for the esper y'shtola which is why i was shopping around

@piggo @snacks just means magic card that's not by wotc

@piggo @lain just that itcs not the official card. Kinda weird when the proxy is 100x the value of the original tho

@snacks @lain so you just invent fake magics? wew, artsy

@piggo @snacks the idea is that you can't just play a card you don't have, but if you want a different artwork you can show that you own the original and play a 'proxy' for the original. of course outside of official wotc tournaments nobody cares about that, but wotc wants the most powerful card to be the credit card so they don't condone it for tournaments.

@lain @nugger and some of the official artworks have weird issues that might be ai too nowadays...

@piggo @lain no, they have the same text as an official card

@snacks @nugger they have enough issues with just boring, uninspired and sometimes plain ugly art, don't much care if they use AI or their little daughter to draw it

@lain @piggo originally prxy was more for substituting expensive cards or just testing a card before buying. In the official tournaments i don't think you're allowed to use proxies at all

@snacks @piggo i thought you were allowed if you had both cards in the same sleeve, but i think the tournament scene is dying anyway

@snacks @lain makes sense if someone paid nonsense money for a card that never leaves a display case.

@lain @snacks @nugger the newest chatgpt makes perfectly competent anime style art, you can generate art that doesn't look ugly or weird at all. now people complain it's too perfect, but it's obvious bullshit because it just looks identical to like, gacha games from a year ago that nobody seriously bitched about.

@sun @snacks @nugger yeah, making a gacha game with the current models is 100% possible

@lain @sun @snacks YOU'D NEED A CHARACTER DESIGNER WITH ENOUGH GOOD TASTE AND SENSE AND USED TO USING GOOD LORAS TO STYLYZE THE OUTPUTS SO IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A POLISHED MID 00S BROWSER GAME AD

@lain @sun @snacks LIKE AWIVR'S STUFF, WITH THE THICK WHITE OUTLINES AROUND CHARS
THAT'S SUCH A GOOD TRICK, FUCK

@lain @sun @snacks GOOD LORAS FOR THE LINEWORK AND STYLE, AND THE WHITE OUTLINE REALLY BREAKS UP THE IMAGEGEN TELL OF UNIFORM DETAIL DENSITY BY MAKING YOU FOCUS MORE ON THE CHAR AND MAKING IT LOOK LIKE THE CHAR HAS MORE DETAIL

@hakui @lain @snacks @nugger anyway we all know good and well that way worse shit than this gets released commercially, and not even interestingly bad, just human made slop

@hakui @lain @snacks @nugger there's nothing wrong with you saying the stuff I prompted was soulless, it is, I hope the final product is better than human made slop.

@hakui @lain @snacks @nugger I'm making it in a month to see what's possible, if it's good I'll make something real okay?

@lain @snacks @piggo when nexus of fate was played you notably *had* to proxy that shit in tourneys because the only available print was a box promo with eye watering foil and bent profile or embossed letters or some shit that marked you card sleeves. so no you don't

@sun @lain @nugger @snacks a part of it is also because i don't sense any overall direction right now besides "here are pngs of girls my type"

for a gacha game to work, the player has to want to roll for the png. why should they choose /your/ pngs, in an era where we are absolutely flooded with pngs, especially when people with low expectations can just AI output their own pngs?

examples that worked:
>this png is based off a real boat
>this png is based off a real horse
>this png is a character in a coherent story setting
>this png is voiced by my favorite VA

maybe it's not fair to you because you barely started yet, but it'd be nice to see some direction at some point

@hakui @lain @snacks @nugger right now it's a tech demo. I would never try to make a real game without actually putting thought into that, yes

@sun @lain @nugger @snacks aight, sorry for not being fair to you then

@hakui @lain @snacks @nugger it's fine, I value your input. my goal is to eventually generate full character sheets completely using human writing, and then use the AI and see if it makes tolerable art with good direction. it's entirely possible the end result will not be great.

@sun @lain @nugger @snacks my reflex is to go "if you're already getting humans to write why not just get humans to do the art too" but i also understand most available freelancers have shit work ethic and it's understandable you don't want to deal with that

@hakui @lain @snacks @nugger I have had really hard time with this, all my preferred artists are super unreliable

@nugger @lain @sun @snacks I got into the technical side when it was new, reading the papers and stuff, but haven't been keeping up. Are people using comfyUI now? What are the best LoRAs?

𝓛𝓮𝓶𝓸𝓷𝓛𝓮𝓶𝓸𝓷.

@nugger @AmericanChampion @lain @sun @snacks I try and avoid ComfyUI as much as I can. I use a customized Forge Neo fork of A1111 with models I've trained myself over the years, almost no LORAs if I can help it. I also do a lot of post processing with Clip Studio and Photoshop. I do graphics design work on the side so I have access to a lot of professional tools.

@AWIVR @lain @snacks @AmericanChampion @nugger I prefer comfyui because you can do a lot more. I have made loras but my success rate for that is pretty low.

𝓛𝓮𝓶𝓸𝓷𝓛𝓮𝓶𝓸𝓷.

@sun @lain @snacks @AmericanChampion @nugger I used to have a lot of success building hypernetworks, but that's a deprecated feature. Now I integrate my own training data into models that already have baked in loras. The base model I main is one of the older Waifuillustrious SDXL releases I believe.

I used Codex to help me port over my favorite extensions from A1111 into Forge Neo so I'm pretty locked into my personal workflow.
