was taught cursive when I went to catholic school but I heard it is no longer being taught in the american public school system. can you guys read this word?

@vitalis it is taught alongside learning how to write in general afaik but isn't maintained and it doesn't matter if you pass cursive class or not. I did and maintained it by having family and teachers who wrote entirely in cursive send me letters from time to time, and every once in a while a teacher would expect us to use cursive for atleast our names on papers. A lot of modern academic failures come from the school system trying to figure out how to make unwilling kids learn and pass without being allowed to address the fact that these kids are terrible. Unwilling participants cannot pass, so they fake and fudge wherever they can, constantly moving the peg down to match with modern poorly parented children. It's not noticeable in civilized areas, but the closer you get to the city or some real trashy rural areas the more apparent it is.

How is it a socioeconomic issue if education has been a joke since the 90s and then no child left behind prioritized metrics because public schools are paid per a child's head in attendance.

I'm not saying there aren't factors with socioeconomic disparities, but at the end of the day education in the U.S is a deliberate institutional failure, and the primary reason for the state of affairs today.

And as someone who has actually seen how it functions from the inside I can tell you that we are not allowed to discuss alternate options with students other than the traditional highschool > debt route.

@vitalis i only write cursive for personal notes. Even teachers preferred print letters or whatever you call it ("druckschrift" in german)

@vitalis at this point my curaive has turned into my own writing system with symbols for /ŋ/ and /ʃ/ because i got annoyed at how there's a bunch of ways to write them in german and "sch" is also just a lot of letters for one sound
