hmm comparing a macbook m5 pro (64GB/2TB model) and my zenbook s 16, i’d have expected the macbook to be better. it’s a bit faster at some tasks because it has more memory bandwidth and CPU cores, and the extra thickness helps with fanless cooling, but the display is surprisingly worse (higher resolution but can’t match contrast, viewing angles, uniformity and energy efficiency of OLED) and the keyboard is a LOT worse. the battery has a few extra Wh compared to the zenbook but it’s LiPo so it may have a shorter lifespan.

that macbook costs almost 3x as much as the zenbook but even considering the apple tax for the customizations this is a bit disappointing because it actually looks and feels cheaper. the display deserves special mention here because it looks like it has worse static contrast than the matte IPS panel i put in my old laptop 11 years ago ($70 at the time). did not expect that from apple.

@mia but idk why apple is so reluctant on oled. Took them forever on their phones too

@snacks oh i misread. yeah it’s the base model screen but the upgrade option is basically an anti-glare coating that doesn’t make the panel itself any better
