@mischievoustomato @RustyCrab @mischievoustomato this stuff is already like making a list of software made without syntax highlighting ("with a machine pre-digesting syntax for you, people will completely lose the ability to understand the code they are writing. this plays into the narrative pushed by fascist billionaires...")

@lain @RustyCrab @mischievoustomato this syntax highlighting has super fascism powers

yeah this was brought up by brodie, a lot of young people actually do like AI/LLMs. At my university I don't think most people dislike AI at all (every classmate I see uses it), and there's even posters and signs made with ai.

@lain @RustyCrab @mischievoustomato hmmm. didnt donald knuth use ai to achieve something sometime ago?

@lain @RustyCrab @mischievoustomato i dont think the people that are this anti ai would have the actual courage to follow up with this and or deal with the consequences

Somehow, I just knew what this section would look like.

It's funny that they recommend DWL but not DWM, despite it being supposedly identical, just remade for Wayland instead of X11. And they even have a section for X11 window managers.
Clearly they can't condemn DWM as being "slopware" since it doesn't use LLM code, but they can't condone it either because the Suckless devs are chuds.

@yomiel @mischievoustomato @mischievoustomato are they actually chuds or is that just Drew Devault being a psycho again

@RustyCrab @yomiel @mischievoustomato @mischievoustomato They have German instincts, but with the shackles of being in Germany.

@RustyCrab @mischievoustomato @yomiel @mischievoustomato The latter. They have an apolitical take on software which triggers the "If you aren't with me, you are against me" type. Idiots lose their mind when they see the torchlight hike photos because Nazi propaganda used that already existing piece of culture for propaganda. It's like saying swastika is inherently tied to Nazism when it's a religious symbol that Hitler used, same with nordic runes.

i hope these guys never use any of the software again, so I won't ever have to see them. they can run their own untainted bugridden forks on their 2001 IBM Thinkpad flashed with some obscure firmware and a 5 year old BSD kernel

@RustyCrab @mischievoustomato @mischievoustomato
The big controversy was to do with them being 'nazis'. They did a torch lit hike, with people claiming it's reminiscent of Nazis. They rebuke that by saying it's normal tradition in Germany, and they didn't know about the Charlottesville rally a few weeks earlier. Either they're telling the truth, or they were just being edgy, I can't really say for sure. I guess you'd have to decide for yourself: https://suckless.org/conferences/2017/

They have some other stuff that supposedly makes them Nazis, apparently their email host was named after one of Hitler's secret bases? And apparently one of the devs said 'Cultural Marxism' once on a forum. Honestly a lot of it feels like grasping at straws. They're probably a bit right wing and a bit edgy. That's the read I get on them, anyway. I highly doubt they're actually Nazis, though.

@KaiserKitty @RustyCrab
But that's not what they're condemning them for. They cite an irrelevant CoC violation and the fact it has LLM-produced code in it. And that wasn't really what I was getting at anyway, the fact they condemn Xorg and recommend Wayland instead was more my point.

@phnt @mischievoustomato @RustyCrab @yomiel @mischievoustomato

tbf they also called some private mail server "wolfsschanze".
and they are kinda assholes online. but i mean they honestly say they are about elitist software for people who like to meddle with the c source code....

tbh i dont care if they are nazis or not since i dont work with them, for them, or pay them. i used st as a terminal a while and actually quite liked it. makes me just delving back into it thinking about it....

@grillchen @mischievoustomato @RustyCrab @yomiel @mischievoustomato I don't judge their hostname decision for "wolf's lair", couldn't care less honestly. There might be some context behind it like it was supposed to be somewhat hidden from the public and nobody but them will never know the origin besides what the name physically is. Could also just be a slightly edgy joke.

>and they are kinda assholes online. but i mean they honestly say they are about elitist software for people who like to meddle with the c source code....

Their software attracts certain kinds of people, just like FSF attracts smug annoying people. The elitist "no novices asking stupid questions" thing and their code being largely undocumented with bad variable names only adds fire to the fuel. It's the "I run a fully free thinkpad with GNUBoot" of software.

>i used st as a terminal a while and actually quite liked it.

I have custom patches for st, dwm and dmenu that I wrote over the years. Once you take the skeleton they provide and patch it up exactly how you want it, it's usually quite a pleasant experience.

@phnt @mischievoustomato @RustyCrab @yomiel @mischievoustomato well the translation makes it sound arbitrary... Schanze is literally reinforced/defensive military building. in this case it is just the name of hitlers quartier. it has no other meaning or usage.

@yomiel @mischievoustomato @RustyCrab actually yeah, theres a closed issue about smth (xlibre) not being added as an alternative due to the coc lmal

@mischievoustomato @RustyCrab @mischievoustomato Someone with way more free time than me should create a PR to add Gnome and GTK on the list because they're sponsored by AI Slop companies. I doubt that they would accept it but it would be fun the reaction

wait what is this slopware and code of conduct stuff

@sickburnbro @RustyCrab
Slopware is software developed using code from LLM's. Usually referring to the whole project being vibecoded rather than just random commits, but to these retards it's the same thing.
And code of conduct violations are when you upset trannies and their favourite software.
