@snacks opened prusa slicer, checked my regular preset for printing that x carriage i wanted to modify, 3 and a half hours

@snacks with petg too, odds are you're doing asa again

@coolbean pla, it's raining so i can't put i outside and pla has longer fatigue life which i need for this

@coolbean don't print 3d printer parts that aren't just visual in pla, it creeps like crazy

@coolbean and will just melt in some parts

@snacks im not planning to this was just for comparison purposes. this is like the least stupid stl ive got rn

@snacks although i will admit i do want to print this itty bitty direct drive extruder adapter asap so that one might be pla but its on the other side of the x carriage so itll probably be fine? a girl can dream

@coolbean the adapter might be fine, it should just be under compression.

@coolbean and yes, the cat ears are neccessary

@coolbean i just realized this could use more weights...

@coolbean i'll probably reprint, the overhangs kinda suck

@coolbean buut, i just want to finally have my btu trackball

@snacks its got some funky twisting forces that i hadnt really been thinking about before

i think ive got an idea for how to orientate it while slicing that should minimise this at the cost of adding supports

@coolbean nvm, that's not an ovrhang issue. Time to stop and clean the build plate with soap...

@snacks im trying to figure out why my perimeters are so fucking slow currently cause 1mm³/s is literally ridiculous

@coolbean i've set my whole first layer pretty slow but idk what that ends up in flow rate

@coolbean i just checked, about the same actually

@snacks see but the first layer is supposed to be slow for maximum adhesion this is every perimeter on every layer for me
1

@snacks that too but the inner perimeters arent much better!

@coolbean if it's just the outer walls. For prints that are narrow you also often have issues with running into layer time hard

@coolbean ok, is something printing as fast as you want?

@snacks maybe it counts em as small perimeters. those are set to the same speed as outer perimeters

@snacks idk, slicer estimates be weird and i havent set it up properly yet anyway

@coolbean that's also what you wanna print fastest because it don't matter a lot

@coolbean figuring out your slicer settings is gonna take a lot of time yeah

@coolbean also, the flow rate in my preview is a lie

@coolbean i don't think i've ever seen more than 70mm³/s

@snacks indeed

but yea its weird. outer perimeter settings are the exact same as inner

@snacks speed i mean. settings for inner are literally double of outer and identical to infill

@coolbean @snacks ime you’ll get better results with equal settings for inner and outer perimeters, especially for faster prints. i don’t think it’s just the resonances because extrusion pressure and cooling rate both affect stresses in the material as it solidifies

@coolbean @snacks probably one of the reasons why arachne tends to fuck up the surface finish, idk

@mia @snacks splitting the difference and setting both to 45 :)

@mia @snacks i have lowered the time estimate by 10 whole minutes

i might also wanna tweak my layer height. the nozzle can handle plenty more and z resolution isnt as important for functional parts

@mia @snacks somehow this fixed the weird fluctuations in speed as well where like every second layer was super slow and now its still 30mm/s on the perimeters which is still short of what i set the perimeter speeds to but its added up to a bit over half an hour saved which is ok. gonna have to dial in the speed more at a later point (by default x and y have the same acceleration and speed limits which is silly)

@coolbean @snacks filament settings (layer time, volumetric flow limit)? sounds like sparse infill set to every 2 layers but the perimeters alone don’t take long enough for cooling so it has to slow down

@mia @snacks ah fuck i do have that set to 2 layers

welp guess i gotta improve the cooling at some pouint
