I want to actually have an understanding of whats so great about birth of a nation before watching it and specific techniques employed in it, so im most able to situate it in it's time and what it meant for the films that cane after it within a single viewing so i don't have to rewatch it, but basically every review i read online is just 'its really good, but also it's really racist, now here's six more paragraphs about how racist it is, a sentence about what it dies well, and now the reviews over', like mf i know it's racist, everybody knows its racist, i want an actual analysis of the techniques used in it.
