@georgia I got something today that smells like old perfume and smoke I hope it wears off a bit. It does suck when things smell like their old owners.

@aetios my guess is that it smells like smoke so they put perfume over it in the case of my deck ;_;

@georgia is this a card deck or steam deck (either stinking is shit but a steamdeck would be easier to clean...)

@georgia eh maybe risky:

Ozone can damage certain materials, including rubber, plastics, and fabrics, causing them to degrade or discolor over time.

Depends if you wanna risk it or not

Buy decking oil and a decking brush and apply liberally to the surface. Should seal the perfume smell once it cooks in. Make sure to seal the gaps of your doorways and windows with airtight tape. The odors from the oil are very strong and can linger for weeks.

The temperature range on these finishes is dismal. Ensure the forecast is agreeable before applying or the oil won't set and you'll have wasted money and time.

Apply decking timber cleaner (usually a light acid wash) and rinse a day before application.

@newmodel I'm talking about a card deck and the deck is made of paper

@georgia I'd lean toward that being included in "plastics/fabrics" when it comes to tarot cards. Would depend on their composition though. If you know what they're made of, I'd run a test with a similar composite first. But effects might take a while to show up, kinda like the old electronics case plastics turning yellow with UV exposure.

@Vo it just sucks that it didnt say it was smelly in the description of the deck and I'm sensitive to smells

@georgia Yeah you only ever get a "smoke-free home" as a selling point, never a warning otherwise. But I've never seen a "perfume-free home" selling point, and for me that can be much worse.

If it was a deal-breaker for me, I'd send it.

Those ozone generator units are pretty cheap and useful for other purposes too, just gotta be conscious of the health effects... run enclosed away from inhabited spaces, ventilate thoroughly after use.

90% rambling, like going on about that one time that this guy....

@Vo @georgia My wife buys a lot of second hand kids clothing, as well as shirts I like they don't make anymore, and ISTG, some people wash their clothing in effing bubble gum flavored soda mixed with shitty perfume before they send it out.
Makes stuff unwearable until it's sat outside for like three days and a rainstorm.

@brimshae @Vo I wish these cards smelled like bubblegum and not harsh cologne lol

@brimshae @georgia Ugh I think I've smelled this. Thought it was just excessive dryer sheet usage. Fuck dryer sheets man, gimme lightning bolts worth of static shock before benzenes/acetaldehyde.

Granted I love the smell of ozone so I maybe I'm biased.

@georgia @Vo At least you're not wearing the cards.

Also, when you said ''deck'' initjally, I thought you meant like on a house. 😆

@georgia @brimshae I learned it from a hotel maintenance job where they had an ozonated water generator, that stuff cleaned so damn well and was dirt cheap.

Didn't care for the job but the smell and efficiency must've awakened something in me.

@Vo @georgia You want to talk about dryer smells? I brushed out the exhaust vent from our dryer a couple of years ago after I had to replace the thermostats in said dryer.

HUGE pile of like 20+ years of dryer lint, including from before I got my wife to switch to unscented detergent.

Old scented crap blown everywhere. Nasty stuff, lemme tell you. Thankfully it was outside.

@Vo @georgia I'll have to look in to that.

@brimshae @georgia Whole companies in my area specializing in cleaning out dryer vents. It's lucrative for a reason I guess

@brimshae @georgia Only downside was it lost its effectiveness after about 30min

@Vo @georgia Because no one can be bothered to spend 20 minutes with the brush kit you can get at Home Depot/Lowes for like $25. Pop it in your drill and go.

Hell, I pulled one of the toilets a couple of months back when I needed to replace the wax seal. Took it in the back yard and had the kids spray it down with the pressure nozzle on the garden hose. They had a great time. Went over it with some cleaner and a drill brush.

I'll warn you in advance: Getting a wax seal off sucks, but maybe that's because it was cold out at the time.

@georgia @Vo @brimshae when my acura smelled like absolute ass in the ventilation system i got one of those mega ozone generators from amazon, ran it for 1/2 hour inside the car with the fan on, and it completely eliminated the smell without damaging the interior. it's harmful to breathe though so be aware if you do use it.

@brimshae @georgia Heat gun and a scraper, maybe a polycarbide disc on a drill - but I think that might damage the porcelain

@Vo @georgia Yeah, probably it was really gummy, but I got it out. Plastic scraper and an old flathead screwdriver.

It was also a good chance to clean under the toilet, since I have a couple of little boys still working on their aim.
