@kirby It's good enough for regular people.

I haven't used one... but would not recommend. It only has 8GB of memory, both memory and storage are soldered to the board and not upgrade-able.

@kirby ill give serious answer from what ive seen on the internet (i dont mac)

- single thread performance better than m1 macs
- less threads so lower but not bad multicore performance
- youre mainly cucked by 8gb ram only
- the macos kernel swaps really smartly so its way less bad than it would be on other oses but its still tight depending
- battery level is about what you would expect from an m1 air or something
- build quality is normal apple quality with some edges cut (physical click trackpad, no kb backlight) but in all other respects better than any windows laptop for honestly even $1k
- macos in the current state of apple software blobcatnauseated

@kirby but arm laptops are really nice for school/uni stuff overall where you just need enough perf to run a browser and maybe compile some small projects

@coolbean @kirby but, a fucking phone cpu. They really love overheating cpus for some reason. That thing is designed to be passively cooled without even heatpipes and prob even thermal compound

@jjj333_p @kirby pretty much my take , persobally i wouldnt buy a 8GB laptop just to be stuck on macOS

@snacks @coolbean @kirby The issue probably is that the phone CPUs are so good that it somewhat rivals the CrapBook Air, and Apple can't have that. So they intentionally burn the CPU. The CPU in the CrapBook Air is also passively cooled I think.

@fiore @kirby yeah i personally value having a bunch of ram over the entire rest of the device, i bought my hp a few years ago for a similar $600 then upgraded the ram back when that was cheap and im riding this one out until it hits the bucket

knock on wood, universe i am not asking for this to happen. i know after i said that about my phone you decided to kill it...
