Looked up the ibm patents on capacitive keyboards. I was wrong about the unconnecred pad but still confused why it's there

Yeah, seems these pcbs have no vias apart from where the controller connects which ig only needs drilling and no plating

Makes sense considering it was mostly created to be cheaper tham beam spring keyboards, i don't think there's any other capacitive keyboard with no vias, this indirect coupling prob reduces snr?

Vias are prob also just cheaper nowadays than an extra ground plate at the back
