kids these days don't play minecraft the eay we did when i was young.
they don't even have to memorize crafting recipes. it's all om full display, no secret recipes to discover or myths to spread.
we had to train our index finger muscles to fight. the stronger the muscle the higher the attack rate. look at this sad excuse of a combat system they're using.
minecraft used to look like shit. vertex buffers? never heard of that. oh you think it means it ran on old hardware? pray it ran on current hardware back then. ram is for minecraft only and the fans humming is music to my ears.
all kids these days know is kill the whither, download shader packs, eat hot chip and lie.

@lucy like when i was playing 12 years ago, the limitations at the time made me use my minds eye more but now i can just build what im thinking of

@lucy The constant adding of features ruined the game.

Killing the Ender Dragon in $CURRENT_VERSION is really easy when you find two villagers, upgrade them and you essentially cheat yourself through the entire game with the best items and the most broken enchant (mending). Wither is the same.
The new mobs are mostly pointless (the Nether creatures walking on lava) or just annoying (the Phantom). Wow let's punish the player for not sleeping and as a reward give them an item that repairs the Elytra, that will surely make their experience better and they surely won't have mending on it.

I still poured 40 hours into one world with friends and will continue to do so, but the base game is boring in singleplayer. All the goals have simply ways to achieve them and skip most of the progress.

Then there's the problem with the modding community, mostly creating complex technical grindfest mods. None of the modpacks I played recently for some time can even compare to the old Technic pack for 1.2.X. It has a lot of content, yet most of the things are simple to craft and do not require 10+ hours of gathering resources.

@lucy i do prefer the modern combat, idk why people like spamming left click so much. Also, have you looked at vintage story? Seems to kinda go more in the direction of old survival

@lucy @meso question, is the fact that bows aren't mgs also an issue?

@lucy kids didn’t even play minecraft when I was young because it hadn’t been invented, I’ve never played it

@psnacks @lucy It's a bit slow for my taste, but it doesn't affect me that much. I never really liked the combat anyway and building stuff is much enjoyable to me.

@arcana @lucy Neither do the kids today. Minecraft is "boring garbage" according to most of the young zoomers and younger I talked to. Roblox much better according to them.

@phnt @lucy isn’t Roblox as old as Minecraft?

@phnt @lucy Wow, it’s older actually

@arcana @lucy Roblox is younger I think, but it got massively popular only a few years ago.

@phnt @lucy i think most people just don't try to do anything with the time between swings, play around knockback or crits, reposition yourself, do literally anything but standing around. I actually prefer axes because they take longer and you can crit every hit without downtime

@phnt @lucy the phantom is such an stupid addition. But man I wish i had the spirit I had when I played years ago for hours, nowadays I get bored quickly, much more so if I play with others

@mischievoustomato @lucy Yeah, when I create a singleplayer world, I usually play on it for 2-3 days and then forget about Minecraft for months. Slightly modded vanilla is for me the same thing as CS. Boring when playing alone, enjoyable with friends.

to be fair minecraft was always piss easy. The difficulty/complexity/grind came from goals you set for yourself. The experience of kind of just doing your own thing has been muddied by the sheer amount of retarded side content in modern minecraft, though.

@phnt @lucy >The constant adding of features ruined the game.
impressive how they managed to give this impression while only adding like two features a year (zillion dollar company btw)

you could always do as many attempts as you wanted on the ender dragon and his health bar never reset btw

@mischievoustomato @lucy btw since the Phantom is annoying and the membrane it drops is essentially useless (it can be used as food for some creatures I think, but who really cares), it can be disabled with this simple trick:
/gamerule doInsomnia false

it's a lot of features when you do a playthrough every half decade

@mischievoustomato @phnt @lucy phantom is literal retardation
>have game where you build and you fight
>it's annoying to switch between the two
>make a feature that lets you skip fighting so you can build longer and control the pacing a bit
>now make it mandatory or other ways to achieve the same thing don't work????????

@lucy I've been thinking about starting up a beta 1.7.2 world to see if it is still enjoyable.

@menherahair @phnt @lucy whenever I play minecraft I just hollow out massive cobblestone mines and make large castles and bridges to nowhere. It's more of a relaxing game at this point.
