Lucy [hiatus era] 𒌋𒁯

I had a flatmate once who was obsessed with v for vendetta and another flatmate after having seen it said it was "underwhelming bullshit" so this other guy started screaming about him being literally hitler and beating the shit out of him

@lucy I liked how the movie was afraid that the koran was going to be banned in england by a fascist government instead of banning criticizing it

@sun @lucy it was made when punk theory still thought people would do something if only they knew how bad it was outside.

it turns out they don't care very much and you can convict a human trafficking kingpin with no victims or clients beyond a shadow of a doubt and nobody seems to think the judge should be strung up for collusion.

@icedquinn @lucy people were just scared of 9/11 and iraq war causing massive backlash against islam when really it was george w bush and the entire federal government importing tons and tons more arabs after bombing the shit out of their countries and begging people not to be mean to them

that part wasn't even in the comic

@icedquinn @lucy did you know what left wing OWS people were meeting with right wing tea party people to talk about banks before both movements were co-opted and ruined

@sun @lucy according to graeber (and who knows how reliable this is) the IMF was shitting its pants calling in every favor on the cards to shut it down. they came hours to guillotines.

@icedquinn @lucy I believe wikileaks was killed by the CIA to protect Bank of America specifically.

@sun @lucy wouldn't be surprised if they got the CIA or some shit involved. they needed severe psyops. any kind of military response (their favorite) would have detonated and there was enough gas sitting around to kill an empire.

yeah. its funny that destroying the constitution did nothing but bailing out bankers almost killed them. blobcatdunno still. the house always wins.

@icedquinn @lucy INSURANCE.AES256 never revealed I believe because assange lost the key and I believe it contained information that would have completely destroyed BoA. It's been so long I can't remember why I came to this conclusion though

@sun @icedquinn @lucy I remember that. I also remember the meetings not lasting very long. I think the GOP had its tendrils sinking deep into the Tea Party by then.

@adiz @icedquinn @lucy I suspect the key was broken up among multiple wikileaks members and at least one of the members betrayed the org. the one that created the obvious cutout replacement, I can't remember his name but I hope someone stabs him in the face with a broken bottle someday.

@mrsaturday @icedquinn @lucy They were co-opting it with Sarah Palin and other imbeciles that were replacing "no bank bailouts" with "we need to get back to MURICAN values"

@sun @adiz @lucy if you remember fbichan he basically said the shit thats in those files would basically necessitate the execution of half the government officials that exist.

if that's the file he has squirrled away he gets to live because the threat he can dump it is credible. he doesn't get to live if he actually does.

@icedquinn @adiz @lucy I believe it was all private banking records but who knows. I think he lost it or he would have used it when they were trying to kill him

@sun @icedquinn @lucy Yep. And they tried the same with OWS and when it didn't work, they had Colbert get the knives out. God he's such a piece of shit.

A major reason why right-wing populism is doomed to failure is because deference to hierarchy is baked into the ideology, no matter what flavor you're looking at.

@icedquinn @lucy @mrsaturday there is something to be said for an orderly society where people don't have to worry about so much stuff but yeah

@icedquinn @lucy @sun And libertarians with CEOs, and the far-right with dictators/"great men," etc. The left just does it. "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" is a stupid way to run a large government from the top down, but if you're trying to accomplish something or run a smaller community, it's a great mindset to have.

@sun @icedquinn @lucy The moral of the story is that if you are ever in possession of anything of monumental importance you release it unto the world like Prometheus releasing fire unto mankind.

@adiz @lucy @sun i don't exactly trust meme news man but he had one episode where he talked about just seeing small amounts of what those people are up to is enough to give hardened soldiers PTSD.

like, child torture porn.

@sun @taylan @adiz @lucy its not about generational wealth. rich people literally go insane. there was a wealth manager who spilled the beans on his clients (well, anonymized) and how they regularly think they're reborn pharoahs [sic]. a lot of people are also just straight up social darwinist, or "because i can."

we're lucky that most of the time they are a harmless kind of insane. but rest assured, they are largely crazy.

@sun @adiz @lucy @taylan i remind everyone that when a poor does cocaine he's a horrible ruffian criminal that belongs in a cage. when a rich boy does cocaine, he made some mistakes.
