@sun @georgia The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 2116) explicitly addresses divination and fortune-telling:

"All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to 'unveil' the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other men, as well as a desire to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone."

Doesn't sound very delightful to me cc_baka

@ageha @georgia @j isn't the difference that when you pray you're talking to God (or saints) but occult you're talking to demons

@ageha @georgia @j theres some separation between theurgy and magic but I'm not clear on how you tell the difference. example: moses did theurgy and the egyptian court magicians did magic

@sun @georgia @j @ageha the church considers all of the patrons except for yveh's automata to be "evil."

jesus has a lot of overlap with a hermetic alchemist though blobcatnomouth

@sun @ageha @georgia @j It's kinda like terrorism. It's theurgy when my guy does it, magic when the other guy does it.

@j @sun @ageha i think another point of strain in catholic logic would be to condemn clairvoiyants but only if they are not pious in their view, if they're saints then they have a charism of the Holy Spirit (prophecy)
