Druid (MOVED TO SHRINE.MOE)

I want to play fedi people at Civilization VI! Are there enough people around with interest to get a regular little game going?

I believe Civ shines the best when it gets to blossom as a thought-heavy tactical game: that is to say, I'm fed up of random (impatient, single session focused) players online demanding turn timers or simultaneous war turner. If we're doing this, we should do it properly: as in we should be prepared to play for multiple sessions and to take the game at an organic pace.

If you're interested, then please reply! Boosting for engagement is also very welcome - please help me find opponents!

@kuro Oh God, the series has come a long way since then! How good is your PC?

The game, even the complete version with expansions and DLC (you will need at least the expansions to have a decent game) is actually very cheap now since it's at the end of its lifespan (Civ 7 drops in a few months.)

@druid yes probably maybe. ive basically only ever played against AI and have never been particularly good (despite dumping countless hours into 3, AC, 5, and 6). but yeah im interested

@why Based and redpilled. I used to be pretty good but apparently I got real rusty, so no worries on that front.

We should probably get some kind of list or chat or something going. I'm tempted to just make a steam group since everyone needs steam for the game anyway, so there's none of the usual fedi drama about discord and its various nonworking alternatives lol

@druid man if only there were some way a collection of people on the fediverse could communicate with each other in some encapsulated forum like some sort of............ group......... or something. we should bully the pleroma devs into implementing this feature

@why We honestly might as well pray for the sun to rise in the west. It's over. (I really do think a Steam group is our best shot.)

What timezone are you on again?

@mrsaturday He's such a loveable Chad. Meanwhile I need to actively force myself not to play Phillip II even though he was a piece of shit.

So you're interested then? As I said to Why,I'm thinking a Steam group is best for keeping track of it.

What's your timezone?

@why Fair enough, it sucks working around a range of timezones but that's any worthwhile online activity innit

@druid Unfortunately no, I'm kind of trying to wrap my head around the game at the moment. It's a lot more complicated than V. Not that I mind, it's refreshing to see a sequel add complexity for a change.

@mrsaturday Yes, I think it definitely takes a few practice games to get the hang of it. Civ VI has some great new complexity, you're right, but it's also the most punishing Civ game when it comes to blunders. Mis-zoning a district is a nightmare.

@why I'm hoping for longer sessions than that, but in bursts with breaks between games. When I've played with friends before, we've usually played for 6-8 hours, but we were all eurofags...

@druid in case you don't find anyone here, I'd recommend checking the CivPlayersLeague on Discord, there should be people who are interested in an MP game.

@druid I mean I'm so deeply mediocre at the game but I do love it with all my heart. I've played over two thousand hours between 3, 4, 5, and 6. Are we counting Beyond Earth? Idk how we feel about Beyond Earth. I don't have anyone to play with in my life so I'd be down to join a group.

@jalefkowit Excellent! Do you play via Steam? I'm thinking of making a Steam group to keep track.

@thePurpleMonkey Wonderful! Don't worry, I'm apparently mediocre too - once upon a time I could take on Emperor without sweat in Civ 6 but I've really gotten very rusty. (Like you, my game experience is split between a range of them: 2, 4, 5 and 6 for me.)

Do you play via Steam? I'm thinking of making a Steam group to keep track of players.

@druid My early game sucks which is why I can get bulldozed by the AI pretty easily. Lost a game in 20 turns one time when a lone archer literally razed my capital. I play on Steam so you can add me to the group

@thePurpleMonkey Okay, I'll get it set up and ping you the details!
>A lone archer razed your capital
Ouch... Don't take this the wrong way please, I'm trying to be helpful since it helped my game a LOT: If you haven't yet done so, read The Art of War by Sun Tzu. It only takes about an hour of your time and it really is applicable to Civ's combat pretty directly.
In this instance, I'd say you should focus on having at least a ranged unit as a city garrison, and a melee unit knocking about in the city limits that can help fight. Maybe even 4-5 such units if the city is in a vulnerable position midgame.
You can also rush an early social policy called Limes, which will help you build walls faster. :)

@druid oh, really? I thought the community over there should be rather reasonable. I might have been mistaken.
