if racism is based on real concerns than why has it changed so much throughout history? why were irish, japanese, etc barbaric then but cultured aryan/honorary aryan now?

@georgia japan was probably considered barbaric because the period of isolation set back their technological progress relative to the west, but people began to view them more favorably once they modernized, unless you count the ww2 period where propaganda portrayed them as barbaric again.
as for the irish, I don't think they're considered cultured by most westerners outside of america; and lots of americans have irish ancestry, so they're biased.
maybe in britain the irish are seen a little better these days, but that's probably because third-world immigration has increased their relative standing.

@patchuun there are lots of brown whitenats so their logic isnt exactly consistent. and the way the same things that make white people superior genetically apparently make jews evil (pushing above their weight).

@georgia even before japan modernized, people were fascinated by their culture, and probably viewed them as eccentric and a little backwards, but not savage.

@georgia I can see a good argument for that, but it also seems optimistic in light of our current social issues. maybe there's a difference between people who are only uncivilized because poor, and those who are constitutionally uncivilized.
honestly I think personality traits and related things like civility are in large part inherited. maybe the self-civilizing effect was really because the more civilized immigrants succeeded in america and had more children, while the less civilized ones didn't. in that case, the biggest threat to civilization would come from our society not rewarding civilized behavior in that way anymore.
