@vriska @shibao @methyltheobromine no you're entirely right, i have always just treated PDs as separate because classically they are incurable

@vriska @shibao @methyltheobromine it's more than that, there are plenty of non lobotomizing psych meds except maybe for psychosis, but BPD has no nuerochemical palliative so it is assumed to be integral to a person. now BPD i've always seen as "safe" except for like relationships because the primary harm is to themselves. but i'm curious how you feel about NPD or sociopathy.

@vriska @shibao @methyltheobromine PDs in particular have a huge nature component, they are equally or more heritable than "normal" mental disorders. it's such a common story that people with them grow up, have an abusive parent, and then hit a certain age where PDs manifest clinically and become the person they never wanted to be. PTSD is caused by experience and bipolar is a chemical abnormality not part of the personality. i think it's entirely fair to view them as more innate and intractable that other conditions, what i shouldn't have done was be so unilateral/fatalistic about it or issuing ethical value judgements about something that primarily harms the self. i don't know enough adults with BPD because every case i have come across personality it has seemed impossible for them to form close relationships normally and they were older teenagers and young adults

@vriska @shibao @methyltheobromine while i tend to agree in practice most people haven't tempered themselves to this degree and so i would advise people not familiar with certain PDs and how they manifest to steer clear from romantic involvement for self care reasons. i see i've upset you so i'll stop arguing about this.
