WOW. Chinese is wild.
I love when I looked at the post it wasn’t that long, then I translated it to a language I can read and it was huge by comparison.
How does it work? Each character is a word? Is it similar to how kanji work? I hope this isn’t offensive, I don’t know if kanji came first or after, it’s just that I vaguely know how those work.

Would one character be hel and the other lo?

I’m sure it’s perfectly fine but as someone who grew up using a system that has spaces between words this sounds like it would be hell to get used to.
Is chinese traditionally written left to right or the other way around? I have some memories, not sure if correct, of someone telling me they were up to bottom, right to left.

@raccoon In mainland China, horizontal writing is used for daily life and published books, but books published in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan may be written vertically.

Sometimes, if a kana combination corresponds to one or more kanji, learners will immediately convert them into kanji because they are easier to understand.
