@redstarfish only a little on wikipedia, I'm not genuinely interested in buddhism because it denies the existence of God and the soul

@georgia funny enough christianity would distinguish between the soul and spermatikos logos (which actually seems closer to this)

but when christians favorably read hindu theology, they usually read atman as logos rather than soul (especially since there is only really one logos)

anyway to christians, the soul is the self, that is a new existence. your logos is the eternal potential God wants you to be unified with (and which imo everyone will be)

@georgia jesus is the only person to have been fully unified with his logos/the logos on earth, to the point we would say there is no distinction. in him God is made thinking creature and man is made eternal

@georgia also when i mention christians reading hindu stuff, they tend to favor ramanuja’s kind of thought

@lizzie theres a lot I like about john but the logos is so neoplotonic in my view

@georgia yes john and the church fathers were fine with using concepts from greek philosophy. spermatikos logos is mostly connected with st justin martyr whose theology is a little controversial. st maximus the confessor of “the one logos is many logoi” is not controversial and the last church father recognized by all chalcedonian churches

@lizzie would you care to explain the one logos being many

@georgia ive got a book on st maximus the confessor still in the mail unfortunately, but essentially the idea is that everyone has their own logos. theres one undivided logos in truth but there is multiple of it in how it is to be embodied in every person as an individual

@georgia essentially the incarnation in Jesus is an intrusion of God into the world as a means and foretaste of God becoming everyone

@georgia so there is one baptism & one salvation because there is one humanity (and one creation as a whole) but the whole is made partial for th sake of it being experienced and that there might be love between

@lizzie so peoples logoses aren't the same? the difference is its actually different in people, and not just different in how in touch you are with it?

@georgia i mean whether or not theyre different can mean multiple things so yes and no

but yeah God wants you as you. there’s the dissolution of ‘mine’ but not of you in heaven. there’s a difference beyond how unified you are with it

@georgia its often described as a “divine concept” of how you are to be

@georgia i accept the existence of i as a necessity for the existence of you, but i is to me not necessarily a separate thing from you

@georgia where ‘i’ start and ‘you’ begin isnt really so clear cut but there is still difference and because of that there may be service
