@wowaname @lain i agree with lain tbh, SSRIs defeat the point and may cause people to give up on psychedelics

@wowaname @lain did you know the first SSRI identified was DXM and prozac was an attempt to create DXM's effect but without bad side effects

@wowaname @lain they consider ego death to be a bad side effect and emotional lobotomy a fine one

@wowaname @lain its actually a great way to motivate people to quit ssris. the afterglow can get you through initial withdrawal and can resensitize your brain to serotonin. at least it seemed to do that for me.

@ademan @lain @wowaname SSRIs don't just upregulate serotonin to stop you from getting sad they also downregulate it. psychedelics are serotonergic, they work by increasing serotonin in many parts of the brain. SSRIs blunt them a great deal to the point of being not at all fun. the result for me was feeling the confused and spacey aspects of psychedelic headspace as like a disassociation, but the magical flow-state characterized by effortless rapid and ephemeral connections/patternicity was closed off from me. psychedelic thoughts when you close your eyes become hypnagogic. when i closed my eyes i forgot i existed. proper psychedelic trips feel self-luminous and it just didn't... my emotions were still blunted. i also got weak visuals and no body highs that would characterize later trips. all in all, SSRIs kill a part of the human experience that psychedelics tap into.

@wowaname @ademan @lain benzos and antipsychotics can abort trips in a pinch. they aren't direct antagonists like SSRIs though, antipsychotics work on dopamine and benzos on GABA. benzos stop you from freaking and i'm not really sure quite how antipsychotics interact.
