Fun fact: The USA has been nuked more than Japan

@arcana who knows what other horrors everyone has in their secret labs these days. nukes are pretty old tech by now.

(i may have spoken to a plasma engineer a time or two blobcatsleepless)

@icedquinn Oh yes definitely, there's definitely a lot of stuff out there like that imo. You can read declassified stuff from the 1960s even that shows some weird stuff. If that's 60s tech, you just know they have some very interesting toys hidden away.

@arcana the navy was casually insistent that they have microfusion reactors and shit. they might have just been shitposting, but the patents are public and nobody believes them.

there gets to be a point where you can just straight up tell people what you are doing and nobody takes it seriously anymore

@icedquinn Yes there's a lot of very interesting patents like that

@icedquinn @arcana i knew a guy in gulf war 1 and he told me they already had handheld nukes in 1991

@sun @icedquinn I thought tactical nukes were common knowledge?

@anemone I'd have to check my numbers on that, I think Russia might take the win on that though because the US also nuked the ocean a few times

@sun @arcana i guess psychopathic cowards can't actually restrain themselves to stop trying to make everyone angry at all times.

gonna fly too close to the sun one day. they had to pull out a lot of stops the past year, people tired of their shit.

@sun@shitposter.world @arcana@fedi.layer02.net @icedquinn@blob.cat those have been around since the 50s theres probably some facility testing experimental nuclear shotgun slugs these days

@arcana @sun some tinfoils think they are sitting on antimatter and so, though i'm incredibly skeptical.

@icedquinn @sun Honestly the UK has some pretty amazing stuff too. The military tech here is out of this world. A lot of it is shared with the US though.

@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @sun@shitposter.world it would be cultural appropriation to not have someone at least 1/4 giraffe play him

@sun @icedquinn @arcana @ergo do you think someone out there has already proven / disproven P=NP, but it's being covered up for security reasons?

@sun@shitposter.world @ergo@social.ergo-research.org @icedquinn@blob.cat @arcana@fedi.layer02.net you can patent anything. doesn't mean it works. i saw a patent for gluing your dick shut as a form of birth control

@jeffcliff @arcana @sun @ergo technically the patent was rejected so it doesn't have to expire

@jeffcliff @arcana @sun @ergo oh fun somebody didn't read the fucking thread where this was covered already ablobcatbongohard

USPTO didn't believe it, the Navy wrote letters insisting it does work. Thus the whole part where we wrote this part:

gutkato_malprofito quietly insisting that it works

@icedquinn @arcana you can file patents for things you don't own or have invented or exist at all tho

i think that's more likely to be a english to english translation error in some part of the chain, since artillery guns fire grenades and also
rocket-propelled-grenade (RPG) launcher and hand-grenades, etc. I'm betting he was talking about the Davy Crockett warheads. for a nuclear fusion youll need some 4-5 kg of uranium/plutonium (which amounts to about a fistful of material volumewise and 2 full-bricks of weightwise). + the triggering mechanisms, which will amount to an extra 20kg in the case of using most explosives, less if you can figure out some neutron laser hijinks).

Let's say that a simple 2 kg is used for the housing+triggering of the 5kg ball of plutonium, that's still a 7kg (or 3.5 house brick) weighted ball the diameter inbetween a baseball and a basketball.
You're gonna need a VERY good throwing hand to not be caught in the blast radius of that (not gonna happen) or the grenade has to not be a fusion/fissile bomb, but rather a regular dirty bomb (spray radioactive material around the area causing area of denial and hardcore radiation burns). Plus throwing a 7kg ball is

There is no practical application for a hand-throwable-sized device, and suitcase nukes are already discussed.

tldr; likely a word misunderstanding, and doesnt matter if true somehow despite the unlikelyness due to it's no-use-cases compared to other easier and more cost effective solutions.

emdrive was tested around that time, they probably filed the patent before the results could be confirmed. In the end it turned out that the drive produces no thrust, after thermal expansion is taken into account.

@Inginsub @arcana @icedquinn @sun I've rarely met someone who invented something useful, but I've met hundreds if not thousands of mentally ill people who pretend or believe that they invented something

@genmaicha @sun @arcana @ergo @icedquinn P=NP if and only if there exists smooth solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation if and only if the real part of every nontrivial zero of the Riemann Zeta function is 1/2.

@lebronjames75 @icedquinn @arcana @sun There was a theory that one isotope of hafnium can store energy much more densely, but it supposedly doesn't make a good bomb blobcatshrug

@anemone @icedquinn @arcana @ergo normally the patent office rejects patents like these automatically.

@lebronjames75 @arcana @icedquinn yeah it possible, i have had ppl tell me that you just cant put enough fissile material in something grenade sized and have it explode

@sun @icedquinn @anemone @arcana that looks like a problem about to happen, inventions are the brainchild of creative geniuses that think outside of the box, patent office workers are the complete opposite I assume

@ergo @icedquinn @anemone @arcana as mentioned this apparently got approved because of government insistence that it did work, they do defer to the gov when they insist

@sun @icedquinn @anemone @arcana well if the patent institution is downstream from the government then its probably being used for psyops, for example, making enemy nations think we have better tech than we actually have.

Noteworthy to mention how I said "we" even though I am not American and the Americans would probably have me in my country die (Spain)

But I guess one wants to believe himself part of the Empire.

@ergo @icedquinn @anemone @arcana very possible, the gov has multple parts and we know they have been psyopping people on ufos since the 60s

@sun @icedquinn @arcana did he have PTSD tho, sometimes they believe crazy shit.

I wonder what kind of nukes were those like, if they really existed.

@jeffcliff @anemone @arcana @ergo @icedquinn they have done deboonking and misdirection but in the 60s the air force actually had people infiltrating ufo groups and feeding them misinformation and we still don't understand why they did that. one guy whose name I can't remember is STILL operating.
