@snacks An obese child is tragic and they are everywhere now.
The food market is terrble and is an obstacle to overcome, but It also can't be a sign of good parenting.
@snacks@netzsphaere.xyz this is a great place to send your kids if you want them to die young from heart and lung problems

@kittenlikeasmallcat @salad @snacks my hot take is obesity rates will sharply fall if cities in amerikkka (along with all infrastructure here) was both more walkable and had more public transit options like trains.
while i dont disagree artificial junk and microplastics are definitely key contributors to obesity. id also argue that the fact that everything requires a car to get to causes a domino effect where americans are fundamentally more sedentary than the rest of the world.
say you live in europe. you and your friends to to a restaurant. you're walking to and from said restaurant
in amerikkka you are driving, and eating a bigger meal on average (both due to it being a bigger portion and the fact that if you had to walk off said meal youd likely vomit). thats less calories being burned off. this lack of physical activity adds up and its not something that can be easily changed unless infrastructure is more walkable

@kittenlikeasmallcat @salad @snacks there will always be fat people, but stigmatizing them will only make the problems worse for everyone. much like mental health the only way the healthcare industry can actually treat the sick is if they treat people...like people (goddess, what a concept).
@snacks
Dunno how kids in the stage manage to be that fat, i to was eating junk food when I was a kid but I never got that fat. And I never seen kids that fat.
@Dowito@baraag.net @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz I'm thinking morbidly obese parents. They just feed these kids whatever garbage whenever they want. In some cases that may be the only thing they have access to.
