if we actually followed through on internet enabling universal access to human knowledge, LLMs would be a much more ridiculous idea. if somebody built decent full-text search on top of anna's archive, you would be a fool for typing the same query into chatgpt. why would you ever want some lossly compressed version of the same thing that fits into VRAM and makes shit up?

the fact that half the anti-slop machine arguments are just thinly veiled copyright apologia is actually the thing rapidly pushing us in the opposite direction.

and i do mean a lot of the actions people take against LLMs are actually actively making things worse. try accessing the internet from a country where you need a VPN to bypass censorship, a lot of big websites now block you for looking like an AI scraper if you don't have a residential IP.

it's a disease and i worry we are going to give up on that dream and throw away all the potential that the internet had to protect ourselves from it -- if we keep making information harder to access, that only brings us closer to the future they want, where a corporate chatbot is the primary mode of interaction with a computer for most people.

they already have the training data. the best way to fight back is to pirate more books.

sridharas gloss has monism in it! he regards yoga as union with the supreme self, not just with the soul. I shouldve expected this, he is both a vaishnavite approved by chaitanya and a fan of shankara.

we are both Gods part, as part of His body the universe (Virat), and Gods whole in fullness, as our soul (Atman) is Him (Brahman). out of the full, the plenum, the infinite, the whole, comes the full, the plenum, the infinite, the whole. and when this fullness merges into that fullness, all that remains is fullness.

honestly the idea of an incarnation being just a normal person who doesnt much care about the establishment of religion and the destruction of evil, but is just God in human form who acts as the nicest person youve ever met as an expression of pure joy in lila and even sometimes is so engrossed in play acting (lila) that they lose themselves while still being Self-posessed, the idea that you could know such a person, is so enthralling to me. incarnations are kinda like that, krishna was known by most as a very talented and meritorious human and jesus hid his divine status in the synoptics. and in truth, all beings are manifestations of God and are Brahman, but have forgotten this (except yogis). I had a dream last night where God instructed me in controlling the senses and was just a mere highschoolteacher who was totally non-violent (didnt kill even an insect) and incredibly kind, and even "forgot" that she was omniscient and omnipotent while controlling my mind and senses for the purpose of demonstrating their difference from my Self. wild dream. much better than yesterdays dream where I was a druid (in the DND way) trying and failing to protect the world from robot aliens with robot alien tentacles that probed my brain and eventually made me into their slave. (I could feel the tentacles in my brain, though the brain has no inner sensation).
