@Frankie @boob @happymoomoo @moth america's something of a special case. there's no ethnicity "american" unless you count indians. european countries on the other hand would have justification to complain about becoming ethnic and cultural minorities in their countries. i think immigration to the US should be a combination of humanitarian and merit based. 1776 wasn't when america was "conquered", it was when the declaration of independence was signed. likewise most of israel wasn't "conquered" unless you're talking about the parts taken from Egypt and Jordan, who were also illegal occupiers. And the british had no roots in the americas while Jews have roots in Palestine.

@moth @Frankie @boob @happymoomoo i never said i don't recognize the state of america. i said Western Euros have no reason to claim foul when they are not the majority. However Jews do have reason to want to be a majority in one country in the world, parts of which maintained a desultory Jewish majority for literally thousands of years barring foreign conquests.

if there were any other ethnocultural or ethnoreligious group without self determination that maintained a connection to a land since ancient times i'd be supporting their efforts for autonomy in that land too. i think you know modern population genetics is very different from continuous literary, linguistic, religious, and cultural tradition.

@moth @Frankie @boob @happymoomoo there's a difference between conquerers taking land from indigenous inhabitants, as happened in the americas, and conquerers taking land from conquerors, as is the case of the british conquering territories of the former ottoman empire and arabs conquering the levant

French Jews started calling themselves hebrew to distance themselves from the word for Jew which had a bad connotation. meanwhile many German Jews called themselves "German Citizens of The Jewish Faith" so as not to seem like a foreign people, just Germans of a different creed.

Has nothing to do with what Jews believed about their own extraction, or there wouldn't be literature written by Jews evincing belief in Israelitic origins from far before the 19th century.
